Bosch and the sparking drill

There was a nice sale on the Bosch DDB181-02 18V Cordless Drill/Driver so I decided to pick one up.

Straight out of the box it was sparking like I’ve never seen a drill spark before. Once the trigger was depressed, the sparking was so bad that they were exiting the venting holes of the drill itself!

For my curiosity I decided to call their support number 1-877-267-2499. Once I finally got through to a human I enquired about the excessive sparking produced by this drill. I was told in no uncertain terms that sparking like this was normal and of no concern. If I wished, I could send it in for repair.

Sending in a drill for repair that excessively sparks like this straight out of the box of course is not a valid option for anyone. Simply return it to the place where it was purchased like all people would naturally do. The lackadaisical attitude and obvious lack of quality control is astonishing.

I’ll never touch another Bosch power tool again.
